Featured Project: Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Shatto Place Redesign Quick Build Project

KOA is working with LADOT to implement a rapid implementation/Quick Build project on Shatto Place, between Wilshire Boulevard and 6th Street, in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles. The project will seek to improve student safety at Young Oak Kim Academy Middle School, which fronts the west side of the street block. The project will implement improvements such as curb extensions, median railing, parklets, and other elements. KOA will also work with the school community to conduct community engagement activities and involve students into the quick build planning and implementation process, including artful curb extensions and asphalt art. The elements are programmed to be in place for a medium-term of 1-4 years until funding is put in place to make the elements permanent. During this time, KOA will work with LADOT to collect data and measure the project’s success through a pre-approved set of metrics.
