KOA prepared conceptual geometrics and final signing and striping for a roundabout that has been constructed in the City of Fullerton on Valencia Mesa Drive at Laguna Road near the St. Jude’s Medical Center. The roundabout was provided in conjunction with a private development project to provide traffic calming along Valencia Mesa Drive. It is intended to encourage motorists to turn left from a new medical complex and avoid a residential area, and it also provides an aesthetic improvement for the area that takes advantage of excessive pavement that existed prior to installation. During design, the geometrics of the roundabout were demonstrated in the field to provide assurance that fire, trash, and service vehicles could negotiate through the roundabout readily. This project was designed in 2007 and it is now open to traffic and has exceeded expectations.
