KOA provided Construction Management and Construction Inspection services for the City of La Cañada Flintridge’s Jessen Drive Bridge Replacement project. This project consists of the complete replacement of the historic 1940 timber structure which involved impacts to a nearby elementary school and local utilities. This Caltrans federally funded project involved the complete replacement including cast-in-place abutments and wing walls, precast girders, concrete deck, asphalt overlay, signage and striping, decorative bridge railing, and reconfiguring of storm water basins and approach streets. All utilities including electrical, communication, sewer, water, and cable TV were reconfigured. The project involved coordination between local gas, irrigation, and school districts; County agencies and permitting coordination between Caltrans, Los Angeles County Flood Control District, Los Angeles County Department of Transportation, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Involved heavy emphasis on traffic control, emergency routing, biological monitoring, tree protection, strict NPDES requirements, and local access maintenance. Water runoff concerns of the canyon underpass involved LA Flood Control District permitting, clearing and grubbing monitoring, temporary vegetation preservation, erosion control, and weekly WPCP reports.
