The project involved determining the feasibility of converting the existing Glenoaks Boulevard right-of-way between Central Avenue and Geneva Street to enhance safety and promote alternative mode travel, while minimizing impacts to local neighborhoods. As part of the project KOA evaluated potential impacts to roadway operations, safety, and vehicle-miles-traveled resulting from the installation of various bicycle facilities. The existing roadway cross-sections were analyzed to determine the optimal configuration for repurposing the existing roadway area to more efficiently utilize the public right-of-way. The concepts considered included alternatives for the installation of Bike Lane (Class II), and Separated Bikeways (Class IV) bicycle lane facilities, as well as an upgrade of the Bike Route (Class III) sharrow marking to a more visible alternative. To the extent possible, on-street parking and bus stop locations along Glenoaks Boulevard were maintained.
