KOA provided Project and Construction Management for this project for the City of Long Beach. As a key component of the Pacific Electric Right of Way Greenbelt Master Plan, the Red Car Greenway project will replace 3.66 acres of former railway property with a nature trail consisting of walk and bike paths. The greenway will extend northwest from the intersection of Park Ave and E. 4th Street to Ximeno Avenue, providing recreation facilities and safe passage to surrounding neighborhoods. The greenway will include meandering concrete pathways with connections to local streets, large baja cresta boulders to use as seating, decorative trail lighting, wood grain textured concrete fencing at the entry nodes, subterranean irrigation systems, a mixed selection of native shrubs, and hydroseed mixes of California natural grassland and coastal wildflower. The project was designed with water efficient landscape that will exceed the efficiency limits set by the State.
