KOA is part of a multidisciplinary team developing roadway improvement alternatives with an emphasis on shifting from automobiles to alternative modes, such as bicycles and transit. The roadway segment being considered is a five block segment in Downtown Los Angeles. We originally conducted an inventory of existing roadway conditions, including pedestrian facilities and street lighting, and prepared a base plan. In our conceptual roadway alternatives, we also have taken into consideration relocating some bus stops/loading zones and bicycle parking/docking stations and have coordinated with Metro, DASH, and Blue LA. Our design efforts are being coordinating with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Engineering. We are analyzing the traffic impact implications for each alternative and will prepare construction plans for the roadway segment, including traffic signal, striping and signage, and street lighting plans.
