“Little Italy” India Street Improvement Study and Design, San Diego, California
India Street is located in the area of downtown San Diego known as “Little Italy”. The goal of the project was to design improvements to the street, sidewalk and public environment to lessen the impact of vehicular traffic and place a defined emphasis on the commercial and community aspects of the area. KOA implemented the goals through the addition of traffic calming and streetscape enhancements. KOA provided traffic analysis and final design plans, including signing, striping and street lighting in the area, and worked with the local community through public outreach meetings. The traffic analysis examined the potential impacts of reducing the travel lanes on India Street from three lanes to two, while adding angled parking along the street.
