Bellflower Boulevard Traffic Signal Improvement and Synchronization Project, Los Angeles County, California
KOA Corporation was contracted by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works to design and prepare traffic signal plans to upgrade and modify 35 of the 47 existing traffic signals along Bellflower Boulevard between Lakewood Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway. The corridor lies within five jurisdictions with an overall length of 11 miles. KOA Corporation completed design of the project in 2004. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works administered the construction of the project, and prepared and implemented new coordinated traffic signal timing, which was ultimately completed in September 2008. The overall cost of the project was approximately $1.3 million. Because of significant improvements in traffic operations the benefits of the project are expected to be in excess of $6 million in time and fuel savings, travel time savings of 450,000 hours, and a reduction of 140 tons of vehicle emission pollutants, on an annual basis.
